Review: Betterhelp

ree

I've been seeing a therapist from Betterhelp for about eight months now. I didn't realize it, but I blocked whatever happened to me and started getting flashbacks in my 20s. I saw a therapist back then for a bit, but she did not fit me. Then in 2020, I saw my second therapist on another therapy platform, and she also wasn't a good fit for me. I then found Betterhelp, and I clicked with my therapist right away. I feel like my mental health is much stronger now than it was before.

So, what is Betterhelp? It's counseling by online chat, video, or phone. You can get different types of memberships from meeting once a week to once a month. I love how you can chat throughout the month; it's virtual and how it's so easy to schedule appointments. If you aren't vibing with your therapist, it's easy for them to assign a new one. Luckily, they picked one I clicked with right from the start.

You fill out a questionnaire to determine which therapist to match you with when you sign up. Once they pair you up with a therapist, you get to pick a date and time to see them. It's so easy to reschedule, too, if you need to. I do video chat because I like to see facial expressions, but you can choose phone chat if that feels better. The sessions can range from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your chosen membership. My therapist has given me homework and exercises between our sessions, and it's been beneficial.

If you have any unresolved trauma, it can significantly impact your future health. According to Harvard Medical School, the emotional and physical reactions it triggers can make you more prone to severe health conditions, including heart attack, stroke, obesity, diabetes, and cancer.

I can honestly say I'm in a much better place mentally, being able to talk through what happened in the past to have a better future. Of course, it helps to speak to a professional because specific topics may be too much for friends and family. Undoubtedly, friends and family can listen, but most, if not all, can help with past trauma unless they experienced it themselves.

If you would like to try Betterhelp for a week for free, sign up here.

Have you tried therapy before? Did it help?

To healthy minds,

Robin
