Hi there! How’s it going? Have you been working out much since gyms closed? I have to admit the first week and half of having to quarantine, I didn’t move much. I’m typically an active person so I felt like blah towards the end of March. I didn’t want to feel like blah anymore, so I set a goal to exercise Monday - Friday.
At first I was doing this online workout program that I purchased a few years back. It was fun at first and then it became too repetitive for me. I wasn't looking forward to it every morning.
The key to getting yourself to workout is to do what you enjoy that makes you sweat at the same time. Before the quarantine, I was doing mainly Pilates at a studio using all the of the Pilates apparatus: Cadillac, Reformer, Spine Corrector, Barrel. But, I don't have that at home so I had to come up with something else.
I ended up making my own Quarantine Workout! First, I made a long list of HIIT type moves and exercises I liked. Then I cut little pieces of paper up and wrote each exercise on a piece of paper, then folding them over. I got a cup and placed all the folded pieces of paper in the cup ready to go for my upcoming workouts. I then set an interval timer on my Fit Radio app: 4 sets, 8 exercises for each set, 30 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest and 1 minute of rest in between sets. It's about 25 minutes for the entire workout. I don't always get the same exercises and I change up the music often so it stays fresh. I like Fit Radio because it has a bunch of different mixes for any mood, but there is an annual fee.
Here is a list of some of the exercises I have in my cup:
shuffle
plie punches
skaters
jump squats
bicycles
jumping jacks
squat kicks
run in place
high knees
push-ups
mountain climbers
oblique mountain climbers
alternating lunges
alternating back lunges
squat to press
tricep dips
plank jacks
russian twists
sprinter
flutter kicks
triple step
I love this workout because it's short, it gives me energy in the morning, it works out my whole body and it's free!
Were your regular workouts affected because of the pandemic? What did you do about it?
Keep moving,
Robin
